Girls 1st Place Giant Slalom Victory & Boys Team Wins 2nd

The Sparta Ski Team was out to impress Friday Night!

1ST PLACE WIN FOR GIRLS VARSITY SKI TEAM AT GS #2

It was an impressive Friday night race for the Sparta High School Alpine Race Ski Team on the Kamikaze race trail at Mountain Creek. Just a day after our giant slalom race was rained out and postponed, the Sparta Ski team was eager to race and their race times speak for themselves.

Continuing to strike, the Sparta Girls Varsity Ski Team won the podium with a first place victory and total team race time of 6:42.25. A solid six seconds lead over Wayne Valley High School which finished in second place and Vernon High School in third place. Leading the Sparta girls ski team to the 1st place triumph were Polina Novozhilova (4th overall), Olivia Finkeldie (5th overall), Jillian Stote (7th overall) and Rachel Young (10th overall). 

For the second time in a row, the Sparta Varsity Boys Ski Team won second place in giant slalom. Vernon won first place and Wayne Hills placed third. Contributing to the boys solid second place finish were Brendan Muhs (2nd overall), Joe Russo (9th overall), Tucker Sears (12th overall) and Charles Flint (15th overall). 

All four JV Girls racers finished in the top four, with Olivia Calandrillo leading the charts. Jack Maraziti & Sean Hargrave on the JV boys team finished in the top ten.

The adrenaline will be pumping this entire school week, with back to back races approaching. Our last conference Giant Slalom Race will take place on Tuesday night Jan. 29th at 5pm. On Wednesday night Jan. 30th at 5pm the team will compete in our first Slalom Race of the season. Finishing off the week on Friday Night Feb. 1st at 5pm, 8 boys and 8 girls on the Sparta Alpine Race Ski Team will be competing in the thrilling Dual Slalom Varsity Invitational race.

Mark your calendars and cheer on the Sparta Ski Team at our next Ski Race:

• Tuesday, Jan 29th at 5pm - Giant Slalom Race
• Wednesday, January 30th at 5pm - Slalom Race
• Friday, February 1st at 5pm Dual Slalom Varsity Invitational race

RACERS: Don't forget to bring in your slalom skis tomorrow and mount your chin guards to your helmets before we get on the bus for practice. Those who do not have a chin guard will be required to wear a mouth guard. Otherwise you will not  practice in the gates tomorrow and you will not be able to race on Wednesday.
