Sparta Ski Team Update | Feb. 19, 2020
Hello Everyone!
In case you missed the headlines this winter, the Sparta Ski Team closed out the regular season with the girls varsity ski team qualifying for State Championships and the boys varsity ski team just one win shy. All in all, it was an exciting season. The girls team has been on fire all season long, commanding podium placement seven times. The girls have clinched four 1st place victories including the Petro GS Championship, the Dual Slalom Invitational and two conference slalom races. The varsity boys team claimed podium third in half of our conference races and team captain Connor McAndris consistently led the way.
ALL-LEAGUE: Hats off to NJ's finest high school ski racers named 2020 "All League" including Sparta's own: Connor McAndris, Jillian Stote, Olivia Finkeldie, Claudia Calafati and Cora Moriarty. Congratulation to our Honorable Mention: Rachel Young and Tucker Sears. A well deserved accomplishment. We wish you all speed and strength at the Race Of Champions on Tue Feb 25th. PETRO CHAMPIONS: For the second year in a row, the Sparta Varsity Girls Ski Team, "SENT IT" at the Petro GS Qualifier and won first place. Read the blog article - Girls Win Petro Championship 2 Years In A Row
STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: Coming off back to back 1st place victories, the girls varsity ski team continues to shred the race course. Mark your calendars and get ready to cheer on our Varsity Girls Ski Team at the upcoming State Championships on Fri Feb 21 and Sun Feb 23rd. Races start at 10am on the Kamikaze Trail at Mountain Creek South. Twelve high school ski teams will be competing for the women's podium. You know the Sparta girls will be focused on winning, having fun and skiing fast. An awards ceremony will follow after the race on Sunday. Ski Strong Sparta!
